Create Snapshots

TimeFinder/Mirror is a business continuity solution that enables the use of special business continuance volume (BCV) devices.

Prerequisites

  • See Roles and associated permissions to determine the user roles that can perform this task.
  • TimeFinder/Mirror is not supported storage systems running PowerMaxOS 10 (6079).
  • TimeFinder operations are not supported on Open Replicator control volumes on storage systems running HYPERMAX OS 5977 or PowerMaxOS 5978.
  • Data Domain volumes are not supported.

Steps

To create snapshots:
  1. Select the storage system.
  2. Select Data Protection > Device Groups.
  3. Click the TimeFinder Mirror tab to open the TimeFinder Mirror list view.
  4. Do the following, depending on whether you want to perform the operation at the group level or pair level:

    Group level:

    Select a device group, and click Create Snapshot to open the Create Snapshot - Mirror Pair dialog.

    Pair level:

    1. Select a device group, and click An icon showing the letter i to open its Mirror Sessions List view.
    2. Select one or more pairs, click Create Snapshot to open the Create Snapshot - Mirror Pair dialog.
  5. Select a Snapshot Type:
    • Incremental—Copies to the BCV volume only the new data that was updated on the standard volume while the BCV pair was split.
    • Full—Copies the entire contents of the standard volume to the BCV volume.
  6. If performing a full establish at the pair level, do the following:
    1. Click Set Pairs to open the Set TimeFinder Mirror Pairs dialog.
    2. Select a Source Volume and a Target Volume, and click Add to make them a pair. Repeat this step as required.
    3. Click OK to return to the Create Snapshot - Mirror Pair dialog.
  7. To attach session options to the operation, select Advanced Options and select any number of options.
  8. Do one of the following:
    • Click Run Now to perform the operation now.
    • Expand Run Now and click Add to Job List to add this task to the job list, from which you can schedule or run the task at your convenience. For more information, see Schedule jobs and Preview jobs.
